Water depth: 80-140

What's biting: Red snapper, Cobia, Black Sea bass, wahoo, tuna fish, mahi

Good evening here from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters located in the oldest city St. Augustine Florida . Offshore fishing charters have been at stand still for the last couple weeks with wind blowing upwards of 20-30knts at some days, but small windows did prevail and we got to sneak out a couple times. The times we did go deepsea fishing off St. Augustine the bottom fishing was pretty good with the red snapper bite wide open. In fact we fished 3 different spots with literally nothing except red snapper. Piles of them!! I wish we could get a longer season for them but I don’t foresee that in the future unfortunately. As for the trolling, offshore pelagics are here, tuna fish, wahoo, mahi, sailfish and blue marlin can be caught the next 3 months off of St. Augustine Florida. Ballyhoos are my favorite choice for these offshore game fish with a decent size set up, at least a shimano tld 25 size reel with 30lb plus line with a medium action troll rod. I use shimano tld 50 2 speed and 30 tiagra 2 speed reels with a set of crowder medium action 6”6 troll rods. They seem to have enough flexibility at the tip to not pull hooks on fish at the transom but enough backbone in the lower end of the rod to pull back on the fish. If you are looking for a offshore deepsea fishing trip to remember for a lifetime give Drop Down Sport Fish Charters a call and we can set you up. Now if you booked a trip with us and we get blown out due to weather, we have the inshore fishing charters flats boat to at least get you out on the water and enjoy the day inshore fishing. The red fish bite for me has been solid with a couple trout and flounder too. Live shrimp is all that i really use but there are definitely more baits to choose! The earliest morning lower tide has been the best inshore fishing bite and moving water is key. So here we are, The time is now, let’s go fishing!! Dates are filling up quickly so give us a call on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters. Thanks for reading.

Here in St. Augustine Florida the month of January 2020 the weather has been great and the fishing on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters has been really good! It’s been sunny most days and I’ve had inshore fishing charters and offshore fishing charters. Typically in the month of January it’s cold rainy and windy, nothing I like to be in. In fact if it’s below 80 degrees it’s too cold for capt Alex! But until today it has been nice 60-70 degrees. As for the fishing report tho, the last inshore charter I had we caught some really nice quality fish. I think we had 6 nice sea trout, 3 fat slot red fish, 2 5lb black drum, 2 -3 small flounder and a bunch of shorts! It was a great trip and lots of meat for the fryer. I caught these fish on the outgoing tide and shrimp was the bait of choice. I would expect it to be pretty decent bite if it’s not blowing 25knts and 45 degrees. The offshore fishing charters off St. Augustine that I’ve had have been shorter trips 4-6 hr charters. I’ve been bottom fishing for Cobia , amberjack, and vermillion snapper. Wrecks are the place to be if targeting these fish and jigging just seems productive. But always have a live bait in the well, I don’t care what it is. Big ledges also hold Cobia along with other reef fish. If your planning a trip or vacation to St. Augustine Florida, Soon to come next in March April May are all the pelagics- big wahoo, mahi mahi, tuna fish, sailfish and even blue marlin. You have to charter a all day gulfstream troll trip and it is a long day but these excursions can make lifelong memories. Fishing charters are already being booked for summer and if your looking for a specific date, call us sooner than later at Drop Down Sport Fish Charters in St. Augustine Florida. Let’s go fishing!!

Good evening from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters located here in the beautiful and oldest city st Augustine Florida. October is one of my favorite months of the year when fishing in St. Augustine Florida. The cool crisp mornings make great inshore fishing and the cooler water makes for clear water conditions back in the creeks. If tailing redfish are on your bucket list at high flood tide, October is a great month. Other inshore fishing charter species include sea trout and nice size flounder. Some of the biggest flounder I’ve ever caught as a kid we’re in October. Big finger mullet on a knocker rig or jig head. Just remember one thing when flounder fishing- big bait = big fish! As for offshore fishing charters the weather has had the fleet shut down. I had one trip last week on the Drop Down charter boat and ended up with a nice catch of vermillion Snapper trigger fish and a big Cobia. Offshore fishing in October for bottom fish can be very productive. I like live bottom this time of year, it holds more fish since the bait is gone now. Double rigs work well for meat fish but a big single rig dropped to the bottom with a big bait means grouper. Lock the drag down because you only get one chance or they break you off and can shut down the bite. Trolling can be decent to with a few pelagics starting to swim down. Sailfish , wahoo, mahi, and tuna can all be in the spread. Look for water temp changes or current rips. If your looking to book a fishing charter give us a call on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters in st. Augustine Florida. Let’s go fishing!!!

What's biting: Red Fish, tarpon, big smoker mullet

Good morning from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters here in the beautiful city St Augustine Florida. We just had hurricane Dorian roll by us and we’re very thankful we had no real damage here in northeast Florida. Unfortunately for the Bahamas they were not so lucky. I hope they have good recovery in the years to come. As for fishing in St Augustine fl , now the storm has passed and the conditions have subsided the fishing has been red hot. The inshore fishing has been on fire , from a recent fishing report from charter fishing capt friend. The redfish bite has been really good with 15+ slots size fish in a few hours. The mullet run is in full effect with thousands of finger mullet the size of swimming pools are on the move going south. Fishing in St Augustine in September for tarpon can be as good as it gets around here. Tarpon skying the bait and showering them in to the shallows is a all day event. Drift a big size mullet on a free line or a cork rig with some floucarbon leader with a medium size circle hook in the current or the edge of light at night. The weather is still awesome here in st Augustine fl all year so give us a call on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters let’s go deepsea fishing or offshore and catch some fish and make some memories. 904-501-8572

What's biting: Mangrove snapper, vermillion snapper , African pompano, Kingfish

Good evening from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters located in the beautiful town and oldest city st. Augustine Florida. The offshore and deep sea fishing charters have been staying consistent this month with nice flat seas. On the deepsea Fishing Charters Mangrove snapper are still hanging around, along with the usual suspects-vermillion snapper, triggers fish, Cobia and amberjack. The 4-6 hr offshore fishing charters the Kingfish fish are still chewing along with short Cobia and sharks. As for inshore fishing charters, st. Augustine Florida is also a good place to get a nice tarpon bite this time of year. September is my favorite month to fish for tarpon in st. Augustine. Get a big mullet, circle hook with some fluorocarbon leader and fish the bridges and inlet at the end of the tide change. Look for small mullets getting crushed or look for tarpon rolling.
