The weather is currently sunny but brisk with the high of 55° and a north east wind of 10 miles an hour. The offshore fishing charters in February off St. Augustine Florida on a long deep sea fishing trips high speed trolling for wahoo can be world class with some fish weighing in the triple digits. Where it can be boring, driving around for hours with out a bite and not a bunch of strikes for the charter to reel on but if you high speed w big lures it will most definitely increase your odds on getting the mega-hoo 100+ pounder. Slow trolling with ballyhoo is also productive and provides a lot more pelagic bites. Not always the big wahoo or sometimes what you want but it’s good for a variety of fish. Offshore fishing charters bottom fishing for meat fish like vermilion snapper triggerfish porgies and amberjack are all biting on a eight or 10 hour deep sea fishing Charter. The water is finally actually changing and getting colder and bringing some different pelagic‘s around. Deep-sea fishing charters like bottom fishing for grouper snapper triggerfish Amberjack and Cobia are also very productive this time of year fishing big ledges and wrecks that hold bigger fish. The best way to target Cobia and Amber Jack is to have a live bait or jig and it’s not uncommon to have 2-3 come up to the boat when hooked up to a fish. Good afternoon from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters here in the oldest city in the nation Saint Augustine Florida. The weather here is currently 66° partly cloudy and very breezy with 20 knot winds out of the north seas 5 to 7 feet choppy. The offshore fishing charters here in Saint Augustine have been a little bit funky the last week or so with some cold dirty water lingering around. I have had some shorter offshore fishing charters this past week and the small chicken snapper have taken over. We caught 100+ red snapper and only 11 Vermilion snapper. Red snapper are definitely not endangered and I wish the Fwc and Noaa fisheries would take more action and give us a longer season than 3-5 days of open season. Offshore fishing charters at the Gulfstream in St.Augustine will start getting good and the pelagics like sail fish, wahoo, tuna fish, mahi and even blue marlin will be passing by us any day. Deep sea fishing charters for Cobia should also be getting better. Always have multiple ways to catch cobia and amberjack or other pelagics that could swim up.
