It is Wednesday, September 1, The weather is raining and storming with temperatures in the 80s today, so might as well do a offshore fishing report since I have been offshore fishing every day and slacking on the fish reports. Offshore fishing charters have been really productive this last month whether you have been around 9 mile or all the way out to the Gulfstream. The last few deep-sea fishing charters we have caught a handful of mangrove snapper, a limit of Vermillion snapper, some amberjack, barracuda , some random miscellaneous fish and a ton of red snapper. Good morning from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters in the oldest city St. Augustine Florida. The weather here in St Augustine is sunny with west winds 10-15knots and a warm 76 degrees. The offshore fishing in St. Augustine Florida in March is decent but gets better towards the end of the month. Offshore fishing for black fin tuna will start producing more into April along with other offshore pelagics such as Mahi, sailfish and wahoo. Even the occasional Blue marlin will show up in the spread and swipe at some baits. Today is February 6, 2021 and the weather outside is cloudy with rain, about 50 degrees and winds out of the northeast at 10-15 knots. The ocean is about 3-5 ft and choppy. Not the best conditions but typical this time of year. Offshore fishing charters in February can be hit or miss fishing. The big wahoo are around, some in the triple digits. High speed trolling seems to be the trick now and up to 20knots. High speed trolling for wahoo offshore is a great way to cover ground and find the bite. Good afternoon from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters located here in the beautiful town of Saint Augustine Florida. It’s that time of year to get offshore with some big jet head lures, big reels and let’s do some high speed trolling for wahoo!! January and February months are a known time of year to troll offshore for dinosaur wahoo in St. Augustine Florida. Fish upward of 70lbs are common and a few monsters over 100lbs are caught every year offshore fishing northeast Florida. Drop Down Sport Fish Charters trolls both ways offshore when bait fishing and high speed trolling. I’ve caught wahoo both ways, but the differences between trolling baits and high speed lures are the bites. When trolling offshore with ballyhoos at 7 knots you are in the trolling speed for most pelagics to strike. Such as mahi, tuna fish, sailfish, marlin, amberjack, Cobia, barracuda and yes wahoo. So as you can see you can get a lot of bites and a variety of deepsea pelagics. As when you high speed troll big giant lures at 12-15 knots, the only fish that are gonna track it down and eat is a big wahoo, possibly a monster mahi-mahi. That’s it. So when you high speed offshore it limits you to not nearly as many bites but the ones that you do get are usually the right ones. It can be productive or very boring.
