Good afternoon from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters located here in the beautiful town of Saint Augustine Florida. It’s that time of year to get offshore with some big jet head lures, big reels and let’s do some high speed trolling for wahoo!! January and February months are a known time of year to troll offshore for dinosaur wahoo in St. Augustine Florida. Fish upward of 70lbs are common and a few monsters over 100lbs are caught every year offshore fishing northeast Florida. Drop Down Sport Fish Charters trolls both ways offshore when bait fishing and high speed trolling. I’ve caught wahoo both ways, but the differences between trolling baits and high speed lures are the bites. When trolling offshore with ballyhoos at 7 knots you are in the trolling speed for most pelagics to strike. Such as mahi, tuna fish, sailfish, marlin, amberjack, Cobia, barracuda and yes wahoo. So as you can see you can get a lot of bites and a variety of deepsea pelagics. As when you high speed troll big giant lures at 12-15 knots, the only fish that are gonna track it down and eat is a big wahoo, possibly a monster mahi-mahi. That’s it. So when you high speed offshore it limits you to not nearly as many bites but the ones that you do get are usually the right ones. It can be productive or very boring. If you are in St. Augustine Florida and want to offshore fish January or February give us a call on Drop Down Sport Fish Charters and let’s go fishing!!!

What's biting: Redfish and trout

It’s a beautiful day here in St.Augustine Florida. The weather is warming up and the fish are biting! This last month has been aimed towards inshore fishing due to rough seas off shore , but not to worry, this coming up month (April-May) the Mahi will be running so make sure to schedule your Gulf Stream trip with us while days are still available, as we are booking  up quickly for this up coming spring/summer season. Fish currently in season are: SPECKLED TROUT,WAHOO,SNAPPER (RED) ,MARLIN (BLUE),JACK CREVALLE AND TUNA (BLACKFIN)

Today’s trip here on the drop down was on our inshore boat which is a 181 mako flats boat. We caught Red Fish, Trout and the occasional Flounder while using live shrimp on a Jig Head. With some good current ,The bigger fish seem to be moving out of the flats and on Shell bar. Usually more often than not the Red fish are the most common in shore fish to catch especially over Trout but it’s safe to say the trout bite has been unreal for the last few weeks!

While visiting Florida’s vacation destination in the oldest city, come experience St.Augustines beautiful salt life on a premier fishing charter whether you’re new to fishing or if you’re an avid angler, we strive to not only give professional education and safety on the sport but to insure you and your family have the best fishing experience that will make you love the sport and this beautiful, historical town as much as I do.

Happy Easter to you and your family.

Good morning here from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters here in the oldest city St. Augustine Florida. The inshore fishing has been really hot this last week with a bunch of fat trout and lots of redfish. Still using live shrimp on a pop and cork with flourocarbon leader has been producing. When fishing on inshore fishing charters I have been fishing the bottom of the tide in the deeper holes in the creeks. Offshore and deepsea fishing charters have been blown out from the wind but when it stops the wahoo should be on the chew from this last fully moon. See u next week from Drop Down Sport Fish Charters and let’s go fishing!

A lot of boat maintenance and taking care of my one year old son takes most of my time.
